Parts of Isabela, La Union, Pangasinan still flooded due to Pepito

Some areas in Isabela, La Union, and Pangasinan remained flooded on Tuesday after Typhoon Pepito (international name: Man-yi) dumped rains in recent days.

In Ilagan City, Isabela, a large part was still flooded, with only rooftops of houses sticking out, according to a report on Unang Balita on Tuesday.

More than 800 houses were flooded.

Aside from Pepito's rains, the water released by Magat Dam contributed to the rise in floodwaters. Magat Dam, which straddles Isabela and Ifugao, had four gates open at 7.0 meters on Tuesday morning. It had only three gates open on Monday.

Many agricultural crops were damaged as fields were flooded as well.

Mountain Province

Meanwhile, in Mountain Province, the Baguio-Bontoc Road is now passable though only on one lane after clearing operations were conducted following a landslide.

Benguet

Clearing operations are also ongoing for a landslide in Benguet as well as a rockslide on Kennon Road in Tuba.

Kennon Road is still closed to traffic.

La Union

In La Union, more than 1,000 families were evacuated due to the flooding caused by Pepito, according to a report by Jasmin Gabriel-Galvan of GMA Regional TV on Unang Balita on Tuesday.

The provincial government gave food packs to the affected residents.

In Barangay Alaska in the municipality of Aringay, many houses near the coast were affected by a storm surge and high tide.

Even the roads were flooded.

Residents were able to go back already to their homes but they still expressed fear of another storm surge that may happen.

If the water rises, they said they will return to the evacuation centers.

The provincial government is monitoring the situation.

Pangasinan

Some barangays in Calasiao, Pangasinan were still flooded on Tuesday.

Roads and houses were affected by floodwaters.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said it is coordinating with other agencies if forced evacuation will be enforced in some communities as the water in Marusay River is rising.

Parts of Lingayen and Dagupan were also flooded.

Pepito exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Monday afternoon after causing devastation in many parts of Luzon. —KG, GMA Integrated News
