Four Luzon dams open gates in preparation for Pepito


Four dams in Luzon had some of their gates opened on Sunday morning to release water ahead of heavy rains from Super Typhoon Pepito (international name: Man-Yi).

These dams are Ambuklao, Binga, San Roque, and Magat.

Ambuklao Dam in Benguet had four gates open at 2.0 meters as of 8 a.m., data from PAGASA showed. The water level in its reservoir was at 750.42 meters on Sunday morning, which is near the 752-meter spilling level.

Four gates were also open at 2.0 meters at Binga Dam in Benguet at the same time. The water level at the dam was at 572.29 meters on Sunday morning, just a few meters away from the 575-meter spilling level.

Meanwhile, two gates at 3.0 meters were opened at San Roque Dam straddling Pangasinan and Benguet and Magat Dam which straddles Ifugao and Isabela.

San Roque Dam's water level was at 277.17 meters on Sunday, which is near the 280-meter spilling level.

Meanwhile, Magat Dam's water level at its reservoir was at 181.93 meters, a few meters away from the 193-meter spilling level.

Pepito is expected to bring heavy to intense rains (100-200 mm) over Benguet, Pangasinan, and other areas on Sunday, PAGASA said.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 3 was raised over the southern portion of Isabela, Pangasinan, Benguet, and Ifugao, PAGASA said in its 8 a.m. bulletin. —KG, GMA Integrated News
