Parts of Cagayan still flooded, over 1K families remain in evacuation center

Some areas in Cagayan remain flooded due to the effects of Severe Tropical Storm Nika.

Some areas in Cagayan remain flooded due to the effects of Severe Tropical Storm Nika, according to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).

“So far, wala ng ibang baha na area kundi Tugegarao at Abulug. The rest of the areas humupa na ang yung baha doon," said Cagayan PDRRMO head Rueli Rapsing at a public briefing on Wednesday.

(So far, there are no other flooded areas except Tugegarao and Abulug. The rest of the areas the flood has subsided.)

Also sttil flooded are Barangay Centro 1, 9, 10, and 11 said Rapsing. He noted that the main reason behind the massive flooding was the increase in water in the Cagayan River.

Rapsing also said that over 5,000 individuals or at least 1,000 families are still in evacuation centers.

Since the red alert status has not been lifted since Severe Tropical Storm Kristine, he said the area is still under Charlie or high-risk protocol in preparation for Typhoons Ofel and Pepito.

“Mananaltil at mananatili po sila sa evacuation centers to make sure na nasa ligtas silang lugar. For the entire month of October, ‘yan ang siniguro nating gagawin for Ofel and Pepito,” he added.

(They will wait and stay in the evacuation centers to make sure they are in a safe place. For the entire month of October, that's what we made sure to do for Ofel and Pepito.)

As for the remaining DRRM funds, he said Cagayn still has less than 100 million pesos, but he noted that the quick response funds have decreased since it has been allocated to fund previous damages from the past typhoons.
