2 ash emission events recorded at Kanlaon Volcano
Kanlaon Volcano had two ash emission events that lasted for 4 to 11 minutes long, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said Tuesday.
The volcano in Negros Island also released 3,579 tonnes of sulfur dioxide flux on Monday, November 11, based on PHIVOLCS’ 8 a.m. bulletin.
It also emitted a moderate 600-meter tall plume that drifted north. Continuous degassing with occasional ash emission was also observed at the volcano.
Nineteen volcanic earthquakes were also recorded, while the volcano’s edifice remained inflated.
PHIVOLCS on Sunday released a time-lapse footage of ash emissions from the Kanlaon Volcano where 500-meter tall grayish plumes were released from its summit crater.
Alert Level 2 is currently raised at Kanlaon Volcano due to an “increased unrest” following its explosive eruption on June 3.
Entry into the volcano’s 4-kilometer radius permanent danger zone and flying any aircraft close to it are prohibited.
Sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions, as well as precursory magmatic activity, may occur, according to PHIVOLCS. —Giselle Ombay/KBK, GMA Integrated News
