P708-K worth of marijuana hidden in jeans seized in Clark
Customs officials seized P708,000 worth of high-grade “Kush” marijuana concealed in pairs of jean pants at Clark, Pampanga.
In a statement over the weekend, the BOC said 472 grams of the prohibited substance were hidden in what was declared “Mens Vintage Threads Jean Straight Leg Fit (30/34) Girls” that arrived last October 25.
The shipment was flagged after the BOC’s X-ray Inspection Project detected “unusual images”. A K-9 unit also sniffed the presence of illegal substances.
Customs said it conducted a physical examination in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Philippine National Police – Aviation Security Group, National Bureau of Investigation Pampanga District Office, Department of Justice, and Barangay Dau officials in Mabalacat City.
According to the BOC, the examination revealed "two pieces of black and transparent plastic pouch containing two pieces of plastic wrapped with yellow-orange jelly-like textures suspected to be marijuana derivatives, and one (1) piece of transparent plastic couch containing 472 grams of fruiting tops suspected to be high-grade marijuana.”
A warrant to seize and detain the shipment was issued after samples sent to PDEA for chemical analysis confirmed the substances as “tetrahydrocannabinol and marijuana (Kush)”.—RF, GMA Integrated News
