PHIVOLCS logs 10 quakes at Kanlaon Volcano
Ten volcanic earthquakes were recorded at Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said Wednesday.
PHIVOLCS’ 8 a.m. bulletin on Wednesday also showed that Kanlaon Volcano released 2,066 tonnes of sulfur dioxide flux on Tuesday, November 5.
It also emitted a “voluminous” 750-meter tall plume with intermittent ash and drifted south.
On Tuesday, Kanlaon Volcano had eight earthquakes and discharged 4,768 tonnes of sulfur dioxide flux, as well as 900 meters of plume.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) earlier cautioned against the possible ash fall from Kanlaon Volcano heading northeast at 7:39 a.m.
Kanlaon Volcano is currently at Alert Level 2 due to an “increased unrest” following its explosive eruption on June 3.
Entry into the volcano’s 4-kilometer radius permanent danger zone, and flying any aircraft close to it are prohibited.
Sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions may also occur. — Giselle Ombay/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
