Korean man in SUV hits motorcycle, gas pump in Clark
A Korean citizen struck a motorcycle rider and a gasoline pump while trying to flee from police, according to John Consulta’s report on “24 Oras” on Friday.
CCTV footage showed an SUV being blocked by security personnel in front of a hotel in the Clark Freeport Zone. The SUV then hit a motorcycle that was also attempting to stop it.
The vehicle counterflowed in the hotel’s driveway and sped away.
In another video, security personnel managed to corner the foreigner at a gasoline station in Clark. However, instead of exiting the SUV and surrendering, he crashed into a gasoline pump.
The collision caused the gas pump to explode, igniting a fire at the gasoline station.
“Within four minutes, our firetruck from the Clark Development Corporation (CDC) arrived at the scene, and our firefighters were able to put out the fire within 15 minutes,” said Lina Sarmiento, Vice President for the Security Services Group at CDC.
The CDC reported that the 41-year-old Korean suspect was found naked inside his vehicle.
According to the report, the foreigner allegedly works at a casino in Clark and has been on leave since October 19.
The Korean driver was taken to a medical facility for treatment of second-degree burns and is now under hospital arrest.
The CDC stated that the foreigner has been charged with attempted homicide, grave scandal, malicious mischief, resistance and disobedience, as well as reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property. The damages at the gasoline station are estimated at around P50 million.
Additionally, the CDC is investigating whether the Korean man was under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs.
“We have already requested a drug test,” Sarmiento said. “We are also investigating why he was naked.”
