Palace declares November 4 a special non-working day in Quezon
Malacañang has declared November 4, 2024 as a special non-working day in the province of Quezon.
Signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Proclamation No. 730 states that this was to commemorate the death anniversary of local hero Apolinario Dela Cruz, also known as Hermano Puli.
''It is but fitting and proper that the people of the Province of Quezon be given full opportunity to honor the heroism and patriotism of Hermano Puli through appropriate ceremonies,'' the Proclamation read.
The said document was signed by authority of President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on October 31, 2024.
According to the National Archives of the Philippines, Dela Cruz was known for having founded the Cofradia de San Jose, a group that eventually fought against the Spanish colonial government.
He led a major revolt against the Spaniards based on a struggle for religious freedom and independence. The local hero also sought for equality especially in the union of men and women.
