11 killed in ‘MILF conflict’ in Maguindanao del Sur —police
Eleven people were killed and seven others were wounded in a conflict allegedly among members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in Pagalungan, Maguindanao del Sur on Wednesday, the police said Thursday.
“[Eleven] were killed while 7 were wounded all members of MILF,” Police Regional Office Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PROBAR) said in a statement.
“Wounded were all brought to the nearest hospital for medical attention while the cadavers of the [killed in action] were claimed by their respective families for the preparation of burial in accordance with Muslim burial rites,” it added.
No civilians were reported hurt in the incident and the situation in the area has already returned to normal, according to PROBAR.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) and Philippine Army personnel are monitoring the area.
PROBAR said a deeper investigation will be conducted in coordination with MILF Coordinating Committee on the Cessation of Hostilities (CCCH), Philippine Army, and other concerned agencies to determine the cause of the incident.
GMA News Online has sought comment from MILF Peace Implementing Panel chair Mohagher Iqbal about the incident, but he has yet to provide a statement as of posting time.
