Families still being rescued as parts of CamSur remain flooded

Families who escaped their flooded homes are still being rescued from their roofs as parts of Camarines Sur remain flooded after the battering of severe tropical storm Kristine, Ivan Mayrina reported Monday on "24 Oras."

Among those who were taken into safety by rescue boats were several children, who were trapped on rooftops.

Since the flood was neck-deep, a family in Naga City had no choice but to raise their grandmother’s coffin on the roof.

The uploader said they could not get their grandfather down as he was watching over his wife’s coffin.

In Minalabac, a senior citizen was also given assistance as he experienced difficulty breathing.

Rescue operations are still ongoing in Camarines Sur.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) has logged 116 fatalities due to the onslaught of Kristine.

The NDRRMC also reported 106 injured individuals and 39 missing.

Of the 1.6 million families affected by Kristine, almost one million were evacuated.

The agricultural damage caused by Kristine has reached P3.1 billion as several plantations were submerged in flood.

In Cagayan, some residents used a jet ski and boat to cross the flooded rice field.

Over 152,000 metric tons (MT) of rice; 1,000 MT of corn; and 6,000 MT of high-valued crops were damaged due to Kristine.

Kristine also brought infrastructure damage worth P1.5 billion, with over 3,000 totally damaged houses and over 40,000 partially damaged houses.

The storm also damaged almost 100 bridges and 600 roads.
