14 reported killed in Talisay, Batangas landslide — police
At least 14 people were killed in a landslide in Talisay, Batangas, Police Regional Office 4A (PRO4A) spokesperson Police Lieutenant Colonel Chitadel Gaoiran said on Friday.
According to a police report, the landslide was reported in Barangay Sampaloc around Thursday evening amid the heavy rains brought by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine.
Police said that out of the eight bodies initially retrieved from the landslide, five were minors and three were adults.
Rescue and retrieval operations are ongoing, according to the police.
Elmer Dejucos' wife and two-year-old child are among those reported as missing.
''Mahina naman ang ulan kaso magdamag. Pagbalik namin dito gumuho na,'' he said in Marisol Abdurahman's report on ''24 Oras'' on Friday.
(Even though it persisted overnight, the rain wasn't particularly heavy at the time. The landslide had already occurred by the time I arrived home.)
He added that two of his three children managed to escape the deadly landslide.
''There are pockets of landslides mula Tagaytay pababa dito. Lahat ng tubig at punong nabuwal, boulders at lupa, dito pababa,'' Batangas Police Provincial Director Police Colonel Jack Malinao said.

Meanwhile, clearing operations were conducted as cars, homes, and businesses were covered in mud.
