Caritas Caceres calls for donations as TS Kristine batters Bicol


The Catholic Church’s social aid and development arm in Camarines Sur called for donations as Tropical Storm Kristine continues to batter the Bicol region on Wednesday.

On Facebook, Caritas Caceres appealed for in-kind donations for the typhoon victims including rice, canned goods, water, clothes, and thermal or sleeping kits.

“In-kind donations can be dropped off at the Archbishop's Residence, the Parishes of the Immaculate Conception, Our Lady of Peñafrancia, and San Francisco in Naga City, the Caritas Caceres Office in Pili, or your nearest parish church or office,” the Caritas Caceres said.

Meanwhile, the Archdiocese of Caceres listed down parishes and institutions under their jurisdiction that opened as evacuation centers for typhoon victims.

Several churches were submerged in floodwaters due to Kristine on Tuesday including the Naga Metropolitan Cathedral wherein knee-high floods were reported inside the church and waist-height flood waters were observed inside the cathedral office. The waters have since receded.

As of PAGASA’s 2 p.m. cyclone bulletin for Tropical Storm Kristine on Wednesday, there are already 31 areas under Signal No. 2.

The possibility of raising Signal No. 3 over some areas during the forecast period has also been considered.

Meanwhile, 3 persons were reported dead in the Bicol Region due to the effects of the storm.

Tropical Storm Kristine is predicted to intensify into a severe tropical storm before making a landfall over the province of Isabela on Wednesday night. —Sundy Locus/RF, GMA Integrated News
