70% of Naga's residents affected by Kristine floods

Several provinces in the Bicol Region were hit by floods brought by the heavy rains caused by Tropical Storm Kristine.

According to John Consulta’s report on GMA’s special coverage on Wednesday, Naga City, Camarines Sur was among the heavily affected areas as some authorities continue to rescue residents trapped in their houses due to high water levels.

According to the local disaster risk reduction and management office, 30% of Naga’s land area was covered by flood waters, affecting 70% of the town’s population.

The flash flood in Naga can be attributed to the heavy rainfall, high tide, overflowing of Bicol River, and spilling of water from Mount Isarog, the local disaster management office added.

The tropical storm has also caused power outages in the whole town, the report said.

In one subdivision, cars toppled each other after the flood subsided. While there are three other vehicles that were carried away by the flood.

Three people were reported dead in Bicol Region due to the impact of the tropical storm, according to the Police Regional Office 5 on Wednesday.

In its 8 a.m. report, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council also said one person was reported injured in the region.
