Lahar flows monitored in Albay towns amid Kristine - PHIVOLCS

State volcanologists have monitored lahar flows in three towns in Albay province amid the onslaught of Tropical Storm Kristine (international name: Trami).

“So far, based sa nakalap naming information, may mga lahar occurrences sa Barangay Masarawag sa Guinobatan at sa may Barangay Binitayan sa Daraga,” said PHIVOLCS Director Teresito Bacolcol on PTV's Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon on Wednesday.

(So far, based on the information we received, there were lahar occurrences in Barangay Masarawag in Guinobatan and Barangay Binitayan in Daraga.)

“Kahapon, may na-pick up din ang aming streamflow seismometer na may lahar signal sa Barangay Anoling sa may Camalig naman.”

(Yesterday, our streamflow seismometer picked up a lahar signal in Barangay Anoling in Camalig.)

PHIVOLCS on Tuesday warned residents near Mayon Volcano in Albay of lahar flow, muddy streamflows, or muddy runoff in rivers and drainage areas due to the heavy rains brought by the tropical cyclone.

The agency said that areas in the southern portion of the volcano are prone to lahar occurrences, such as Camalig, Guinobatan, Daraga, Legazpi, and Santo Domingo.

Further, PHIVOLCS said that eight rockfall events likely due to Kristine and two volcanic earthquakes were recorded from 12 a.m. to noon on Wednesday. — VBL, GMA Integrated News
