Suspects crash into tricycle in attempt to flee after robbery

Two suspects were nabbed after being hit by a tricycle while trying to escape from an attempted robbery of a pawnshop.

According to a "24 Oras" report by John Consulta on Friday, CCTV footage showed three suspects falling off of their motorcycle after they were hit by a tricycle in Ormoc City.

The footage showed one of the suspects picking up a gun and running, eventually being chased down by local authorities.

It was revealed that the three suspects attempted to rob a nearby pawnshop before the incident.

“Sinubukan nilang holdapin yung pawnshop pero alisto yung tauhan, biglang nag-buzzer, kaya na-alert kami. ‘Di na tumuloy yung mga suspek,” said Ormoc Police Director Colonel Reydante Ariza.

(They tried to rob the pawnshop but the staff was alert and immediately triggered the buzzer which was why we got alerted. The suspects didn’t push through.)

Authorities were able to arrest two of the three suspects.  One was wearing a Philippine National Police uniform. Seized from them were two guns and bullets.

“Nakauniform pa ng PNP yung isa sa mga suspek, armado ng baril. Pati yung kasama niya armado rin. Kunwari pulis sila pero pag nakalapit na, magdedeklara ng holdap,” Ariza added.

(One of the suspects was wearing a PNP uniform, armed with a gun. Even his companions were armed. They pretended to be police but after coming closer, they declared a robbery.)

Other CCTV footage also showed the suspects checking in at a hotel in Ormoc.

It was found that they traveled from Cebu intending to rob pawnshops, similar to their previous robberies in some provinces in Visayas.

The suspects will face complaints of robbery and illegal possession of firearms. The third suspect remains at large.— Jiselle Anne Casucian/LDF, GMA Integrated News
