Davao school shifts to online learning due to HFMD threat
A private school in Davao City has shifted to online learning temporarily due to the possible threat of hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD).
The Ateneo de Davao University Grade School has shifted to online learning to put sanitation protocols in place.
Parents will be notified once the face-to-face classes will resume.
The school administration also urged the students to wash their hands regularly.
Handwashing is also implemented strictly at the Maa Central Elementary School before and after the classes due to the threat of HFMD.
“Pag-abot pa lang sa eskwelahan, amo na nang gina-instruct ang mga bata nga muadto sa washing area, manginaw sa ilang mga kamot, mokanta og birthday song,” Maa Central Elementary School Communication Focal Person, Jonathan Caminade, said.
HFMD is caused by a virus from the enterovirus family that usually infects children.
Among the symptoms of HFMD include red spots in the mouth, hand, and feet; sore throat; fatigue; and loss of appetite.
The virus causing HFMD may be transmitted via person-to-person contact, respiratory droplets, and contact with a contaminated item, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (US CDC).
According to the City Health Office (CHO), the treatment will depend on the symptoms. The recovery period may start during the seventh to 14th day after contracting the virus.
HFMD can be prevented through handwashing, having clean surroundings, disinfection, and avoiding contact with infected persons. —GMA Regional TV
