Councilor named acting mayor of Porac

Municipal councilor Myla Clarete has been named acting mayor of Porac, Pampanga after current mayor Jaime Capil was placed under preventive suspension due to the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) hub in the municipality.

According to a report on "Unang Balita" on Friday, Clarete did not comment on the court ruling and said that her priority was to fill the gap left by suspended officials.

Operations at the municipal hall continue amid the temporary change in leadership, the report said.

Capil was suspended by the Ombudsman along with 10 other local officials over the POGO operations in the municipality.

The suspension due to alleged gross neglect of duty will be for six months and without pay. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/LDF, GMA Integrated News
