5 hurt in Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao del Sur on last day of COC filing

Five individuals were reported injured in Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao del Sur as tensions rose on Tuesday, the last day for filing the certificates of candidacy (COC) for Eleksyon 2025.

According to a 24 Oras report, a series of Facebook livestreams from the Shariff Aguak Municipal Police showed cops responding to gunshots near the town's municipal hall, as well as people throwing rocks.

The conflict supposedly erupted when supporters thought their candidates were unable to file their COCs.

One of the injured is in critical condition, the report said.

Before the end of the cut-off, the Commission on Election (Comelec) said that the candidates still managed to file their COC.

Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police (PNP) earlier said the filing of COC for the 2025 elections has been relatively peaceful.

PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Jean Fajardo said that she will look into the reported incident.

“We will check on that report. This is the first time I heard that report. I have to validate it," she said. — Sherylin Untalan/BM, GMA Integrated News
