Jerry Treñas' daughter files COC for Iloilo City mayor

Raisa Treñas-Chua, the daughter of Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas, filed her certificate of candidacy on Tuesday as she aims to succeed her father as the city's chief executive.

Treñas-Chua and her fellow bets under Team Uswag were accompanied by their supporters wearing green shirts as they submitted their candidacies at the Commission on Elections’ satellite outpost inside a mall.

“I am deeply grateful for the overwhelming support shown by all of you during the recently concluded filing of our Certificates of Candidacy,” she said in a statement. “Your presence and energy made this event a truly memorable one, and it reminded us of the strength and unity we share as one Ilonggo family.”

The Treñas patriarch earlier announced that he would no longer seek reelection in the midterm polls next year and endorsed his daughter instead to succeed him.

He initially endorsed his daughter, who is also serving as his executive assistant, to run for Iloilo City’s lone congressional seat.

The incumbent mayor first served the city from 2001 to 2010. He returned to City Hall in 2019. — VBL, GMA Integrated News
