Karlo Nograles files COC for Davao City mayor
Resigned Civil Service Commission chairperson Karlo Nograles on Tuesday filed his certificate of candidacy for mayor of Davao City in the 2025 elections.
In a statement after filing his COC at Comelec Davao City, Nograles said "the people of Davao have the right to choose, the right choice, at this right time in our beloved city’s history."
He will be facing former President Rodrigo Duterte, who filed his COC Monday, in the mayoralty race.
"Yesterday, I bade farewall to the CSC I still have five more years left as head of agency and a lifetime pension waiting for me…Today I go back home to Davao City and offer myself and my 20 plus years of experience in government to serve you, my first love," he also said.
Presidential Communications Office Acting Secretary Cesar Chavez confirmed to Palace reporters Monday that Nograles already submitted his resignation letter.
In his resignation letter, Nograles thanked President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. "for the opportunity to serve alongside such dedicated public servants." He said that his decision to step down from the agency "was difficult to make."
"This experience has moved me to return to my roots in Davao City––where I hope to bring and apply the lessons I have learned in my tenure as the head of the Commission, as well as my two decades in government,'' he added. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
