Woman accidentally shot during police ops in Surigao del Sur

A woman died after being accidentally hit by a bullet during the conduct of a police operation in Bislig City, Surigao del Sur.

According to a "Saksi" report by GMA Regional TV One Mindanao's Kent Abrigana on Wednesday, police were conducting a hot pursuit operation of a murder suspect on Monday evening when the target attempted to pull out a gun.

Two police operatives shot at the suspect who was able to escape. However, one of the bullets that was fired hit a 21-year-old woman.

Investigation conducted by the police revealed that the bullet that hit the victim came from among their ranks.

“Sasailalim sila sa paraffin test. Sa ngayon, inaalam pa kung sino sa kanila ang nakabaril. Definitely, hinahanda na ng istasyon ang kaso laban sa pulis na dapat managot,” said Provincial Community Affairs and Development Unit (PCADU) Officer-in-Charge Police Major June Hontanosas.

(They will undergo a paraffin test. As of now, we are still trying to find out among the police officers shot the victim. Definitely, the station is preparing a the case against the police who should be held accountable.)

The family of the victim has not yet issued a comment on the incident.

Meanwhile, two fired cartridges and two motorcycles allegedly owned by the murder suspect have been recovered from the crime scene.
