Comelec accredits 3 parties in BARMM elections

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has approved the accreditation of three regional political parties to join the 2025 Bangsamoro parliamentary elections.

According to the poll body, the accredited regional political parties are:

  • UBJP (United Bangsamoro Justice Party)
  • Al Itthihad UKB
  • BGC (BARMM Grand Coalition)

In August, the Comelec extended the deadline for the accreditation of political parties and sectoral groups intending to participate in the 2025 Bangsamoro parliamentary elections to October 8, 2024.

This is the second time the deadline for filing the manifestation of intent to participate (MIP) for the parliamentary polls was extended.

The Comelec promulgated Resolution 10984 or the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of the Bangsamoro Electoral Code (BEC).

Resolution 10987 set the activities related to the first parliamentary elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and the corresponding periods within which to comply.

In March 2023, the Bangsamoro Transition Authority passed the Bangsamoro Electoral Code, allowing democratic participation in the local and regional elections.

It would also open the creation of political parties in the region with representations from women, youth, indigenous people, settler communities, traditional leaders, and the Ulama.

The first-ever election in the Bangsamoro Region was scheduled to be conducted in May 2022 but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. —NB, GMA Integrated News
