ELEKSYON 2025

Arroyo seeks reelection as Pampanga rep, Salceda eyes return as Albay gov

Former President Gloria Arroyo will seek reelection as Pampanga representative while Albay Representative Joey Salceda will run for governor for the May 2025 polls.

"I have officially declared my candidacy for a second term as Congresswoman of the second district of Pampanga, where I am committed to addressing the needs and priorities of my constituency and the province of Pampanga," Arroyo, chairperson emeritus of ruling party Lakas-CMD, said in a statement issued Tuesday.

Likewise, Arroyo said she won't seek a Senate run in 2025.

"I will not be seeking a Senate seat in the upcoming election, as I have no intention of pursuing that role again," Arroyo, who served as senator from 1992 until she was elected vice president in 1998, added.

As this developed, Salceda on Tuesday filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for Albay governor for the 2025 polls.

Salceda's COC was filed thru his lawyer, Atty. Jong Bonafe.

"He said his client's goal is to make the filing process simple," Salceda's office said in a statement.

Salceda, a member of the ruling party Lakas-CMD, sits as chairperson of the House Committee on Ways and Means.

He also served as Albay governor from 2007 to 2016. —KG, GMA Integrated News
