Julian causes floods, landslide in some parts of Luzon
Rains brought by Super Typhoon Julian have caused floods and landslide in some areas in Luzon, according to Unang Balita reports on Tuesday.
Batanes
In Batanes, strong winds and heavy rains battered Sabtang where Julian passed closely on Monday. The roofs of several houses were damaged and trees were toppled. In Uyugan, some roads were flooded, while a five-seater plane in Basco airport was damaged due to the strong winds even though it was tied to two trucks.
Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union
Buwaya River in Ilocos Sur overflowed and residents were advised of possible flashfloods amid the continuous rains, according to a report by GMA Regional TV's Jasmin Gabriel-Galban.
Floods were reported in Pagudpud, Piddig, Solsona, San Nicolas, Vintar, and Laoag City in Ilocos Norte; as well as in Bangar and Luna in La Union.
A total of 13,000 families were affected by Julian and 200 people were staying in evacuation centers in Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur.
In Sto. Tomas, La Union, motorists had a hard time traversing roads that were flooded. Floods also hit some houses in Agoo. Some residents in Barangay San Jose Sur faced challenges fetching water due to the flood. According to residents, a nearby creek overflowed.
Benguet
In Baguio City, motorists got stranded due to the strong current of the floodwater on road in Barangay Irisan. A landslide was also reported in the same barangay that forced two families to evacuate. Due to the heavy rains, four houses were also damaged in Barangay Dominican-Mirador
Pangasinan
Despite the bad weather, some fishermen in Barangay Bonuan Gueset in Dagupan City proceeded to sail as they were not able to fish in the past few days. According to them, the bad weather already affected their income.
As of 4 a.m., Julian was located 205 kilometers west of Itbayat, Batanes packing maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 230 kph, according to PAGASA.
