Grade 11 student in Nueva Ecija dies in alleged hazing


An 18-year-old male student in Jaen, Nueva Ecija died due to an alleged hazing incident, according to the police on Monday. 

Police identified the victim as Ren Joseph Bayan.

Around 10:20 p.m. on Sunday, the victim’s aunt reported to Jaen Municipal Police Station that her nephew died supposedly due to hazing.

She said Ren Joseph told her that he will undergo a “final hazing” in San Leonardo town facilitated by a fraternity.

According to her and some witnesses, the suspects brought the lifeless body of Ren Joseph to their residence in Barangay San Pablo in Jaen around 5 p.m.

The Jaen police requested SOCO's assistance to conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death of Ren Joseph.

In a Facebook post, San Pablo National High School expressed grief and extended its condolences to the family of their student.

“Lubos na ipinagdadalamhati ng komunidad ng San Pablo National High School ang pagpanaw ng isa sa ating mga mag-aaral na si REN JOSEPH BAYAN ng Grade 11-TVL,” it said.

“Ipinaaabot ng SPNHS ang taos-pusong pakikiramay para sa kaniyang naiwang pamilya, gayundin ang marubdob na panalangin na makamit niya ang kapayapaan at kapahingahan kasama ang Poong Maykapal,” it added.
