Magnitude 5 quake jolts Poro, Cebu
A magnitude 5 earthquake hit off the coast of Poro, Cebu on Sunday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported.
State seismologists said the earthquake of tectonic origin occurred at 2:53 p.m. and had a depth of 10 kilometers.
The epicenter is located 0.49°N, 124.38°E - 015 km S 11° west of Poro town.
PHIVOLCS said intensity III or weak intensity was felt in San Fernando, Cebu.
It added that aftershocks are expected.
Face-to-face classes in public schools in Cebu City were suspended on Monday, September 30, to give way to inspection of school buildings to ascertain if the earthquake caused damage, according to a report by Super Radyo Cebu reporter Decemay Padilla on Dobol B TV on Monday. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF/KG, GMA Integrated News
