PBA player John Amores undergoes inquest proceeding —police

John Amores, a player of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), underwent an inquest proceeding for attempted murder over a shooting incident in Laguna.

“Waiting po sa (We are waiting for the) resolution,” Lumban police chief Police Major Bob Louis Ordiz told GMA News Online in a message after Amores faced a Sta. Cruz, Laguna court.

Aside from Amores, Ordiz said the basketball player’s brother is also facing a complaint for being an accessory.

Investigation showed that Amores tried to shoot the victim identified as Lee Cacalda around 6:10 p.m. in Barangay Maytalang Uno in Lumban town after having a heated argument in a basketball game.

The victim did not sustain any injuries.

Amores together with his brother surrendered to authorities around 2 a.m. on Thursday due to alleged threats. According to Amores, he already threw away the gun he used in the shooting incident.

The PBA, meanwhile, said it was "saddened" by the incident.

"This is a matter subject of investigation by the police, and we cannot comment in it. But we are saddened by such unfortunate incident," PBA commissioner Willie Marcial said.
