PHIVOLCS: Kanlaon emits more than 10K tons of sulfur, 55 volcanic quakes logged
Mt. Kanlaon emitted 10,449 tons of sulfur dioxide as of the past 24 hours and has experienced a total of 55 volcanic earthquakes, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) on Sunday morning.
In its latest bulletin, PHIVOLCS said Alert Level 2 is still up for the 8,087 feet tall volcano that straddles the provinces of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental in Negros Island.
The state seismic agency advised that sudden steam or phreatic explosions are possible at any time.
Prevailing winds blew the 800-meter sulfuric plume to a northerly direction.
The public is advised that entry to the 4-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) is prohibited due to the dangers of an imminent and major eruption.
All types of aircraft are prohibited from flying near the volcano. —RF, GMA Integrated News
