Pangasinan school hampered by floodwater after back-to-back typhoons, Habagat

Classes in Longos Elementary School in San Fabian, Pangasinan have been on a “shifting” schedule as portions of the compound is still covered in floodwater for the past three weeks.

According to a Saksi report by CJ Torida on Friday, flood water covers the school’s covered court, fields and several classrooms. The water has since become dark and foul smelling.

The flood was said to have been a direct result of Tropical Cyclone Enteng and Gener, as well as the Southwest Monsoon.

“Nagsu-subside naman, but everytime na may ulan tataas ulit. Sana one week na walang ulan, tyaka magsusubside rin,” said Principal Delia Magsanoc.

(It does subside, but every time it rains it rises up again. I hope it doesn’t rain for a week, then it will subside.)

The school said it will coordinate with the local government unit regarding sandbags in an attempt to prevent floodwater from entering the classrooms. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/RF, GMA Integrated News
