2 rape suspects nabbed in Antipolo

Two rape suspects were arrested by the Antipolo police in separate operations, EJ Gomez reported on "24 Oras" on Friday.

One of the suspects was a 41-year-old who was arrested for allegedly raping his two minor neighbors in Barangay San Jose, Antipolo City.

Investigation showed that he raped the victims in 2018, when they were only 10 years old.

The victims’ parents were only made aware of the incident when one of their classmates informed them of the incident.

(Accordingly, in their area, [the suspect] was known for groping… [The victims] have come to our [Women and Children’s Protection Center] and we were able to produce the documentary requirements, especially the laboratory [tests] that prove that the victims were raped)

The suspect’s wife assisted in the arrest of her husband, who denied the accusations.

“Kaya po ako kusang sumuko para ipagtanggol din po yung aking sarili na wala akong kinalaman sa ibibintang sakin na kaso,” said the suspect.

(I willingly surrendered to defend myself because I know nothing about the case I am being accused of.)

Meanwhile, a 21-year-old man was arrested in Barangay Cupang, Antipolo at around 6 p.m. on Thursday for allegedly raping his cousin.

Police stated that the incident happened during a drinking session on May 27.

“There was an instance na nagkaroon ng party, tapos nalasing sila parehas.

(There was an instance when there was a party, and they both got drunk. While she was sleeping, he carried her to the comfort room and that was where he took advantage of her.)

He added that the victim’s father witnessed the suspect and the victim leaving the comfort room.  He immediately filed a complaint with the police.

The suspect also denied the accusation.

(I only drank a bit, but I wasn’t drunk then. I helped her go to the C.R. because she said she was going to vomit. She was the one who was drunk then, and there was a man trying to do something… Then, I helped her get home. It’s not true that I raped her)

The suspects, who are facing charges of rape and statutory rape, are being held at the Antipolo Component City Police Station custodial facility. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/LDF, GMA Integrated News
