2 killed in blast near Zamboanga del Sur beach resort

Two persons died in an explosion in front of a beach resort in the town of Tukuran in Zamboanga del Sur.

According to a report of GMA Regional TV’s Fe Marie Dumaboc in Saksi on Tuesday, the body of one of the fatalities was torn apart by the strength of the blast while the other victim lost a leg.

A portion of the resort was damaged, a motorcycle was destroyed and a nearby store was also affected by the explosion. 

Based on eyewitness accounts, police said a white service utility vehicle was seen leaving the scene right after the incident.

Meanwhile, a bag containing ammonium nitrate was found just a few meters away from the resort. 

Authorities are still investigating what materials were used for the explosive device.

The resort,meanwhile, clarified that the incident did not happen inside their establishment.

“....We wish to rectify the misinformation circulating on social media regarding a fatality found within the resort, which is completely untrue,” the resort management said in a statement. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/RF, GMA Integrated News
