Kanlaon Volcano records 13 quakes –PHIVOLCS
Thirteen volcanic earthquakes were recorded at the Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island since Saturday midnight, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said Sunday.
PHIVOLCS also said that the plumes at the Kanlaon Volcano were “obscured,” while its edifice remained inflated.
On Thursday, September 12, the volcano emitted 10,880 tons of sulfur dioxide gas and logged 17 volcanic earthquakes.
PHIVOLCS chief Teresito Bacolcol had said that Kanlaon Volcano may have an eruption following a series of volcanic earthquakes.
Kanlaon Volcano is currently at Alert Level 2 due to an “increased unrest” following its explosive eruption on June 3.
Entry into the volcano’s 4-kilometer radius permanent danger zone, and flying any aircraft close to it are prohibited. Sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions may also occur. —Giselle Ombay/KG, GMA Integrated News
