Heavy rains due to the Southwest Monsoon enhanced by Tropical Storm Ferdie (international name: Bebinca) caused flooding as well as mudslide and landslide in some towns in Palawan on Friday.

Some areas in Coron, including Barangays Guadalupe, San Nicolas, Decalachao, and Poblacion 5, had flooding and there were roads rendered impassable, according to the situation overview of the Palawan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office as reported by Super Radyo Palawan reporter JB Juanich on Super Radyo dzBB on Saturday.

Some areas in Bataraza, including Barangay Calandanum, also got flooded. Two schools, the Bataraza Central School and Bono-bono Central School, were among those affected.

A landslide also occurred in a portion of a lot in Barangay Bulalacao in Bataraza.

In Cuyo, some motor bancas were damaged due to inclement weather.

Some houses were also damaged in Barangay Balading also in Cuyo.

Flights in Francisco B. Reyes Airport in Busuanga were canceled on Friday due to the bad weather.

Meanwhile, 10 families or 45 individuals living in coastal areas in Barangay Alfonso XIII in the town of Quezon were pre-emptively evacuated.

Strong winds and rains also flattened more than a hectare of ricefield in Sitio Casicaan in Barangay Bacungan in Puerto Princesa City, according to a Facebook post by Super Radyo Palawan.

Ferdie has already exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility before dawn on Saturday, PAGASA said.

However, it is still enhancing the Southwest Monsoon.

Mimaropa, Western Visayas, and Negros Occidental will have monsoon rains, with the possibility of flash floods or landslides due to heavy to intense rains on Saturday, PAGASA earlier said. —KG, GMA Integrated News
