Kennon Road in Benguet not passable due to road slip

Kennon Road in Tuba, Benguet was deemed not passable on Saturday due to road slip, the Department of Public Works and Highways-Cordillera said.

The road slip occurred at the portion of Kennon Road in Camp 2, it added in a Facebook post.

Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong said the road slip was "caused by weakened road foundation with the rising water levels of Bued River caused by the recent rains."

"With this development, Kennon Road is closed immediately, pending clearing of debris," Magalong said in an advisory on Saturday.

"Equipment and manpower have been deployed to clear stockpiled materials along the road in order to make the section one lane passable," the DPWH-Cordillera said.

Tuba Mayor Clarita Sal-ongan and officials of DPWH Region and District 1 conducted an inspection of the affected area on Saturday, the Public Information Office of Tuba said.

Motorists were advised by local officials to take Marcos Highway and the Asin-Nangalisan-San Pascual Road as alternate routes. —KG, GMA Integrated News
