Magnitude 4.7 earthquake jolts Sarangani town, PHIVOLCS says


The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) lowered to magnitude 4.7 the earthquake that hit Glan, Sarangani on Friday afternoon.

The initial bulletin stated that the earthquake of tectonic origin was a magnitude 5.0.

According to PHIVOLCS' update, the earthquake hit 24 kilometers southwest of Glan at 3:39 p.m. It had a depth of 62 km.

Intensities were reported in the following areas:

  • Intensity II — General Santos City; Kiamba, Sarangani; Tupi, South Cotabato

  • Intensity I - Magsaysay, Davao del Sur 

It was also felt in other areas with the following instrumental intensities:

  • Intensity III — Kiamba, Sarangani

  • Intensity II — Maitum and Malingon in Sarangani; General Santos City; Tupi, South Cotabato

  • Intensity I — Davao City; Magsaysay, Davao del Sur; Maasim and Glan in Sarangani; Tampakan, Koronadal City, and Lake Sebu in South Cotabato
