Some provinces reeling from Enteng

In the aftermath of Tropical Storm Enteng, some areas of the country have begun clearing and retrieval operations.

In Rizal, rescuers continued their search in Sitio Banaba, Antipolo for a family of five who went missing after their house was washed away by the floods.

Two dead bodies were already recovered, while three others remained missing.

“Mahirap ‘yung kalsada, ‘yung daan. Very stiff. Ang estimated namin nasa 75 to 80 meters mula do’n sa ground zero hanggang diyan. In fact ‘yung bata, ‘yung one-year-old mahigit, is dito natin natagpuan,” said Barangay San Luis Kagawad Brandon Villegas.

(The road is difficult to pass through because it’s very stiff. We estimate around 75 to 80 meters from ground zero to here. In fact, we found the body of the one-year-old child here.)

Floods in several parts of Rizal also destroyed some houses and left thick mud along the streets.

Residents in Cainta have started cleaning their houses. Seven barangays in the municipality were affected by the flooding.

“Tinatanggap namin ang tubig galing bundok rin at galing ibang bayan, tatawid sa aming creeks, at the same time, tinatanggap namin ang tubig na galing sa langit. So the volume is really high,” Cainta Mayor Elen Nieto said.

(The water flows from the mountains and other towns. It passes through our creeks. At the same time, there are heavy rains, so the volume of the flood is really high.)

Cagayan River

In Tuguegarao City, some roads were impassable due to the overflowing of the Pinacanauan River and Cagayan River.

In Casiguran, Aurora, corn fields were damaged by Enteng. Farmers said that they could no longer make use of the corns that were supposed to be harvested by the end of the month.

They are asking for assistance from the government to help them get seeds and fertilizers to be able to start anew.

Landslide

A landslide was also reported in Tanudan, Kalinga, resulting in the temporary closure of the Banneng-Darulog-Bawac Road for clearing operations.

Motorists, meanwhile, were advised to take caution while passing the Pancian Road in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte due to the threat of landslides.

“May tumutulong na contractor na nandoon. Kaya in case magkaroon ng landslide, mabilis lang ‘yung pag-clear doon,” said Pagudpud DRRM officer Hendrick Pedronan.

(A contractor is helping there. So in case of a landslide, the clearing operations will be quick.)

Water activities were also temporarily prohibited in beach resorts in the province.

Impact

Some residents in Barangay Caruan in Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte also remained worried that their houses near the shoreline might get swept by the big waves.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) has been monitoring the situation in different areas in the province.

In the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), some areas were also affected by landslides and fallen trees due to Enteng.

In Angadanan, Isabela over 40 cows died after drowning or getting swept by an overflowing river and creek.

Some rice crops were also destroyed in the municipality of Roxas. Several bridges were also not passable in the province due to the floods.

As of 4 a.m. on Wednesday, state weather bureau PAGASA said that Enteng was already outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, but it slightly intensified as it slowly moved West Northwestward —VAL, GMA Integrated News
