BARMM okays P5-k minimum salary for 'kasambahay' in region

The Bangsamoro Ministry of Labor and Employment (MOLE) has approved a P5,000 minimum monthly salary for all domestic workers or “kasambahay” employed in the autonomous region.

Under Wage Order No. BARMM-DW-01, the MOLE said the monthly pay applies to domestic workers across Bangsamoro including those performing household work, cooking, cleaning, laundry, babysitting, and gardening.

Family drivers, children under foster family arrangements, and service providers are exempted.

"We are proud to announce the approval of the first minimum wage for domestic workers in BARMM. This decision reflects our commitment to ensuring that domestic workers receive fair and just compensation for their labor,” said MOLE Minister Muslimin Sema.

“The decision to set a minimum wage, with expectations for future increases, sends a strong message about the Bangsamoro Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (BTWP)’s commitment to social justice and economic empowerment for the Bangsamoro people,” he added.

Sema said the BTWPB is implementing other measures to improve working conditions, enforce labor standards, and raise awareness about the rights and protections available to domestic workers under the law.

The wage order will take effect 15 days after its publication in at least one regional newspaper of regional circulation in the Bangsamoro. —NB, GMA Integrated News
