Magnitude 4.9 quake strikes off Lingig, Surigao del Sur

A magnitude 4.9 earthquake occurred off the shore of Lingig in Surigao del Sur early Tuesday morning, PHIVOLCS reported.

PHIVOLCS earlier reported that a 5.2 magnitude quake hit the area.

The quake, which was tectonic in origin occurred at 3:42 a.m. with a depth of one kilometer.

Intensity II was recorded in the City of Bislig, Surigao del Sur.

The agency also reported that the quake was an "aftershock of the 2024 August 03 Mw6.8 Offshore Surigao del Sur earthquake event."

There are no damages expected and no aftershocks following the quake. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
