Boy dies after falling into mom's hot pot of batchoy in Iloilo

A two-year-old boy in Carles, Iloilo died after he accidentally fell into a cauldron of hot batchoy.

According to the "24 Oras" report by GMA Regional TV’s Zen Quilantang-Sasa, the victim’s mother was selling food on August 8, but she did not notice that her son was playing behind her.

The mother was shocked after finding her son inside the cauldron.

“I was shocked that he fell. I just saw him inside the cauldron with soup. I immediately picked him up and called for help,” said Jeannette Gallardo in Ilonggo.

Although it was no longer boiling, the batchoy in the cauldron was still hot and caused fourth-degree burns on the child. He was immediately rushed to the hospital.

The boy died on August 13 at the Western Visayas Medical Center in Iloilo City.

“I can’t believe that people say that I did not take care of my son and I was the one who put him inside the cauldron. I’m crying because of these comments,” Gallardo said. —Vince Ferreras/NB, GMA Integrated News
