Cargo of 22-wheeler truck overturns in Antipolo City

A 22-wheeler truck carrying 46 tons of corn from Villasis, Pangasinan overturned its cargo in Antipolo City over the weekend, causing heavy traffic along the Zigzag Road.

According to the truck’s driver Jonathan Feliciano, he was traversing the road in Barangay San Jose past 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, when he tried to steer in the opposite direction to avoid incoming vehicles, causing the truck to overturn.

“Lumobo ako dito kanina kaso sinalubong ako ng sasakyan doon, kaya nabigla akong pihit doon sa kabila, kaya nahulog ‘yung gulong ng trailer, he said in a report by EJ Gomez on GMA’s “24 Oras Weekend” on Sunday.

“Kaya ‘yun ang cause ng pagkatumba niya. Naputol ‘yung chassis nung tractor kaya bigla siyang bumagsak ‘yung ulo,” he added.

(I entered here earlier but I was met by incoming traffic, so I suddenly streered in the opposite direction which is why the wheels of the trailer fell. This is what caused the fall. The chassis of the tractor was cut off, causing the head to drop.)

The driver and his companion were uninjured, but he will be issued a traffic violation ticket for obstruction and reckless driving.

The overturned truck caused traffic delays, with Antipolo Mayor Jun Ynares calling on motorists to either postpone their travel plans or avoid the Antipolo Teresa Provincial Road near Sitio Junction (Zigzag) in Barangay San Jose.

Police advised motorists, especially to those new to the area, should take extra caution in the area as the road is steep.

“‘Yung Zigzag Road po na ‘yun, medyo matarik. May mga blind curve. ‘Yung mga driver lalo’t hindi taga roon, kailangan po maingat sa pagda-drive,” PLT Divina Rafael of the Antipolo Police Station said.

“Gaya nito po, itong driver doon, hindi naman po taga-rito. Na-miscalculate niya,” she added.
