Canadian nabbed in Pampanga for using fake PH visa

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has arrested a Canadian at the Clark International Airport (CIA) in Pampanga for allegedly attempting to leave for Hong Kong using a fake Philippine visa.

The 64-year-old male passenger was intercepted at the airport on Aug. 3, Saturday, after his Alien Certificate of Registration - Identity Card (ACR I-Card) was not recognized or reflected in the BI automated travel control system.

Upon verification, immigration officers found that the registered holder of the ACR I-Card number is a Korean national with a different name and date of birth.

An examination of the BI anti-fraud personnel also confirmed Amos' ACR I-card and visa were counterfeit.

According to the BI, the passenger admitted that he procured the fake travel documents from a fixer who demanded P40,000 as processing and service fees. He said he received the ACR I-Card and his passport with the fake visa barely a week after he gave the money. He further said he was not aware the travel documents were counterfeit.

He is now detained at the BI custodial facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City pending deportation proceedings, the Immigration Bureau said. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
