School in Cebu goes interactive, adds Robotics to subjects

Learners at Talisay City Science High School in Cebu Province are expected to be more participative in their classes and equipped in learning with the turnover of an Interactive Laboratory worth around P3 million.

Teachers are even more excited of the Chemistry Laboratory after two decades of waiting.

In the past, classrooms serve as improvised laboratory. But on August 2, 2024, the formal turnover was slated and graced by Talisay City Mayor Gerald Anthony Gullas and Dr. Arden Monisit, Talisay City Department of Education (DepEd) Division Superintendent. 

Aside from apparatuses for experiments, the laboratory is equipped with an 85-inch monitor.  Lessons in all subjects are a component of the learning program of the multimedia kit, especially in Science, so teachers can present videos with ease to support further explanation and answers to learners’ inquiries, enforcement and enrichment of knowledge, among others.

The equipment is labelled “Learnytic Multimedia Kit.” Any topic in various class subjects is made available at a click expected to make the transmission of knowledge seamless.

The system is designed to encourage further interaction between teacher and learners.

Alex Martin Rafon and Mikel Johann Galicia, both Grade 9 students, find School Year 2024-2025 promising with the aid of the multimedia kits in learning.

”It’s very helpful because it can capture the attention of the students; and it’s also interactive, so we can interact with the topic and the teacher,” Rafon said.

As for Galicia, he said that he can do more and learn more with the use of the interactive learning kit that has plenty of sample videos on lessons compared to the traditional greenboard-and-chalk approach.

The next goal would be to provide all classrooms with the multimedia kit.

Froilan de los Santos, TCSHS head, said that they used to rent space in private schools to conduct experiments in Chemistry.

“Pero karon nindot na kaayo because it is the most high-tech laboratory in the whole Talisay City Division,” De los Santos said. 

Further, for the first time, Robotics will be part of the subjects in Grade 8 following the complete turnover of a Robotics facility from the Talisay City Government. This is seen to enhance the skills of four students who won recently in the Summer Robot Games International Open and Youth Robotics Convention 2024 in the National Capital Region.
