Biker dies after crashing into pole while being chased by dog in Pangasinan

A 41-year-old cyclist in Barangay Banaoang, Calasiao, Pangasinan died after he lost control of his bicycle and crashed into a concrete pole while being chased by a dog.

Closed circuit television (CCTV) footage showed a man in an orange shirt riding a bicycle when a dog chased him suddenly. The chase reached about half a kilometer.

The cyclist, identified as Julius Palara, 41, lost control of his bike and collided with a concrete pole.

"Hindi niya namalayan na ang poste ang papatay sa kanya. Mabilis kasi ang takbo. Sa kakatingin niya sa aso, hindi niya namalayan na sasalpok [na siya] sa poste," Arnulfo Palara, a relative of the victim, said.

Palara sustained severe injuries in his head and other parts of his body.

Residents in the area found Palara already sprawled on the ground, bleeding from his injuries.

"Pinuntahan at inalam [namin] kung anong nangyari, ‘yun pala tumama sa poste — natamaan ang ulo niya [kaya siya] namatay," Robert Diocares, a barangay councilman, said.

Authorities are trying to determine if the dog has an owner.

"Sana ‘yung mga aso niyo, itali niyo para hindi makapanakit ng ibang tao," Palara said.

The Barangay Council reminded residents about the importance of adhering to ordinances regarding pet control, specifically the need to restrain animals.

With rains falling more frequently, authorities also warned cyclists and other motorists of slippery roads. —GMA Regional TV
