Ipo, Binga dams open floodgates —PAGASA

Floodgates at Ipo and Binga dams were opened to release water amid heavy rains due to the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat that was enhanced by Super Typhoon Carina, the state weather bureau PAGASA said Wednesday. 

As of 2 p.m., the Ipo Dam located within Norzagaray, Bulacan has opened three gates at 0.5 meters. 

The water level at the dam was 101.53 m at 6 p.m., which is slightly higher than its normal high water level of 101.10 m. 

Affected areas are the municipalities of Norzagaray, Angat, San Rafael, Bustos, Baliuag, Pulilan, Plaridel, Calumpit, Paombong, and Hagonoy.

Meanwhile, the Binga Dam in Benguet has opened a gate at 0.3 m. Its water level is 571.08 m, which is still lower than its normal level of 575 m. 

Affected areas are Barangays Dalupirip and Tinongdan in Itogon, Benguet.

Several areas in the country are experiencing heavy rains.

The typhoon is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Thursday morning, PAGASA added.—Vince Angelo Ferreras/AOL/VBL, GMA Integrated News
