4 dead in Agoncillo, Batangas landslide —LGU

Four people, including a pregnant woman, were killed in a landslide incident in Agoncillo, Batangas amid the inclement weather in many parts of Luzon, the local government said Wednesday.

"Ang mga biktima ay miyembro ng Pamilya Rimas, Isang anim na buwan buntis na may edad na 28, at tatlong menor de edad na may edad na 9, 13 at 15," the local government of Agoncillo said on Facebook.

(The victims are members of Rimas family, including a pregnant woman aged 28 and three minors aged 9, 13 and 15.)

The bodies of the four victims have all been recovered.

The landslide, the local government said, took place in Sitio Manalo in Barangay Subic Ilaya.

"Patuloy ang pagpapalikas ng ating Lokal na Pamahalaan sa mga kababayan natin na naroon sa nasabing lugar," it added.

(Evacuation of residents in the area is ongoing.)

Based on a police report from Police Regional Office 4A, the victims were inside their house made of bamboo and other wooden materials when the landslide happened.

Their neighbors noticed the landslide early Wednesday morning at 5:30 a.m. But, the police said the incident happened on Tuesday evening around 9 p.m.

Incessant rain hit many parts of Luzon on Tuesday night to Wednesday morning due to the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat that was enhanced by Typhoon Carina.

The weather has caused severe flooding in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.

Government work and classes have been suspended for the day in the affected areas. —with Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA Integrated News
