5 families evacuated due to landslides in Ilocos Norte


The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) of Ilocos Norte on Tuesday reported that five families were evacuated due to landslides caused by incessant rains.

According to a Balitanghali report by Ivy Hernando of GMA Regional TV, soil erosion occured near some residential areas in Barangay Catagtaguen, Banna.

A river meanwhile overflowed in Bacarra.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said it is continuously  monitoring the situation amid possible landslides in Pancian, Pagudpud.

In Ilocos Sur, two families were evacuated in the municipalities of Salcedo and Sigay due to landslides.

Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur have been experiencing incessant rains since Monday up to due to Habagat which is being enhanced by Typhoon Carina.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 was raised over Batanes as Typhoon Carina slightly intensified late Tuesday morning, according to state weather bureau PAGASA.

TCSW No. 1 was raised in other areas, including the northern portion of Ilocos Norte (Pagudpud, Bangui, Adams, Dumalneg, Burgos, Vintar).

Strong winds from 39 to 61 km/h may be expected in these areas within the next 36 hours. Wind impacts may result in minimal to minor threat to life and property. —Jamil Santos/ VAL, GMA Integrated News
