Landslides due to Carina cause road closures in Zamboanga, Benguet
The effects of Severe Tropical Storm Carina and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon caused several road closures in Zamboanga City and Benguet.
In a travel advisory on Monday, the Department of Public Works and Highways said that landslides and rockfall caused the closure of a section of the Bypass Road, Barangay Malagutay section in Zamboanga, and the limit of passage only for light vehicles at the Kennon Road, specifically section S00393LZ K0217+380 in Sitio Klondykes, Camp 1, Tuba, Benguet.
“The DPWH Zamboanga City District Engineering Office Quick Response Team has installed warning signs and barricades and has commenced clearing operation on the affected road section,” the advisory read.
According to the 11 p.m. cyclone bulletin issued by PAGASA on Monday, the anticipated rainfall may cause flooding and rain-induced landslides in some areas of the country.
Signal number 1 has been raised over Batanes, the eastern portion of mainland Cagayan (Santa Ana, Gattaran, Baggao, Peñablanca, Lal-Lo, Gonzaga) including the eastern portion of Babuyan Islands (Camiguin Is., Babuyan Is.), and the northeastern portion of Isabela (Divilacan, Palanan, Maconacon). —Jiselle Anne Casucian/LDF, GMA Integrated News
