Severe flooding displaces nearly 1,400 families in Zamboanga City
Nearly 1,400 families have been evacuated to higher grounds amid the severe flooding caused by prolonged rains in Zamboanga City on Friday, July 12, 2024.
According to the local government, at least 13 barangays were affected as of 7 a.m. on Saturday, 2024.
These barangays include Ayala, San Jose Gusu, Patalon, Pasonanca, Putik, Tetuan, Vitali, Talisayan, Recodo, Labuan, Cawit, Guiwan, and Sinubong.
The local government also said the accumulated rainfall since 8 a.m. on Friday to 5 a.m. on Saturday has reached 168.9mm, according to state weather bureau PAGASA- Zamboanga City Station.
The water level at the Pasonanca diversion weir remains at critical above normal at 75.7 meters as of 5 a.m. on Saturday.
A bridge in Barangay Ayala was also damaged.
Commercial flights at the Zamboanga International Airport were temporarily suspended until further notice due to the flooded runway.
The massive flooding caused by continuous rains was due to the Southwest Monsoon affecting Mindanao. —GMA Regional TV News
