Creation of new barangay in Tupi, South Cotabato wins in plebiscite

A low-turnout plebiscite in Tupi, South Cotabato, on Saturday concluded with a victory for the establishment of a new barangay.

The creation of Barangay Juan-Loreto Tamayo was supported by 96.3%, or 2,393 out of 2,485 voters from the barangays of Cebuano, Linan, and Miasong, who participated in the plebiscite, according to the Commission on Elections.

Eighty-nine people voted against the proposal.

However, only 25.45% of the 9,765 registered voters cast their ballots.

Barangay Juan-Loreto Tamayo will be created from the three existing barangays in accordance with Sangguniang Panlalawigan Resolution No. 158, s. 2023. —VBL, GMA Integrated News
