Group beating man in Pangasinan caught on CCTV

A 28-year-old man was assaulted by a group of men in Barangay San Aurelio 1st, Balungao, Pangasinan, after his motorcycle broke down.

Closed circuit television (CCTV) footage shows Froid Belmonte, the victim, lying on the ground as the group approached and began punching, hitting, and kicking him.

The attackers left the scene briefly only to return and continue the assault.

According to the police, Belmonte was with a companion fixing the motorcycle when a group of drunk men challenged them to a fight.

"Nagkataon na naputol ang kadena ng motor. Hindi sila makapag-accelerate [kaya] huminto sila. Nagkataon na doon sa hinintuan nila may mga lalaking lasing [at] hinamon sila ng suntukan," PMAJ. Jimmy Paningbatan, Chief of Balungao Police Station, said.

Belmonte sustained serious injuries to his head and body and was taken to the hospital. His companion suffered minor injuries.

Lovely Serdeniola, Belmonte’s partner, said he had left home to buy diapers for their child and was on his way back when the incident happened.

"Noong nakahinto ang motor, pinagti-tripan sila pero hindi niya pinansin… ginilid niya ang motor kasi nasira nga ang kadena, tapos sinisigawan na sila," Serdeniola said.

The police have identified the seven suspects involved in the assault. 

Belmonte’s family said they will press charges against the group.

"Pwede itong serious physical injury, depende doon sa resulta ng medico legal ng biktima, sapagkat siya ay nasa ospital hanggang ngayon,” Paningbatan said. —GMA Regional TV
